Who Is Camelphat?
Dave Whelan and Mike Di Scala formed CamelPhat in Liverpool in 2006 after meeting at the city's legendary 3 Beat Records shop where both worked as DJs. Their progression from underground tech-house through Ibiza residencies to Grammy-nominated crossover success marks one of the cleanest trajectories in house music of the past decade. Their 2017 single Cola, featuring Elderbrook and released on Defected Records, reached number 17 on the UK Singles Chart, topped the US Billboard Dance Club Songs chart, and received a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards — an achievement that placed a Liverpool underground duo on the same shortlist as the world's most commercially dominant electronic acts. CamelPhat ran a 20-date residency at Pacha Ibiza and launched their own When Stars Align label in 2024 as a platform for the darker, more underground-facing work that defined their early sound.
