About the Artist

Who Is DJ Franzen?

DJ Franzen — real name Franzen Wong, whose first name was derived by combining his father Francisco and mother Zenida — is one of Las Vegas's most deeply rooted DJ and radio personalities, with a career dating to 1990 when he began as a 14-year-old intern at 106.1 KMEL in the Bay Area, California's most influential urban radio station and a foundational platform for West Coast hip-hop culture. Within a few years he had become an in-house DJ and on-air personality at KMEL, and ultimately the host of his own show that earned the highest ratings in the station's history. From 1994 to 2000 he hosted the CMC Music Video Countdown Show on California Music Channel, a visible mainstream media role that expanded his reach well beyond the club circuit. In late 2000 he left the Bay Area for Los Angeles to co-host Snoop Dogg's nationally syndicated radio show, which reached over 35 of the top markets in the United States — a syndication deal that placed his voice and DJ sets in front of a national audience at a scale that few regional club DJs achieve. His Las Vegas radio presence was equally dominant: hosting the 3–7 PM afternoon drive slot, his show became the highest-rated afternoon show in Las Vegas radio history. The city recognized his contributions in May 2015 when he was presented with a key to the city of Las Vegas, and May 28 was formally declared DJ Franzen Day in Las Vegas by civic proclamation — a distinction shared by very few entertainers in the market. He has shared the booth and the building with hip-hop's foundational figures across his career, with documented personal relationships and stories involving Jay-Z, Tupac, Notorious B.I.G., Nipsey Hussle, and Drake that span the genre's entire modern arc. His music philosophy reflects that depth: hip-hop, old school, R&B, and reggae are his primary territories, with influences ranging from Jay-Z and Tupac on the rap side to Frank Sinatra, Bob Marley, and Sade as cross-genre touchstones that inform how he sequences a set for maximum emotional range and dancefloor utility. He is a TWITCH.tv partner and their top-ranked DJ, extending his reach into the streaming audience that now follows nightclub DJs between live appearances. His current Las Vegas residency centers on Hakkasan Nightclub at MGM Grand, where his R&Bae Wednesdays event runs weekly throughout the spring and summer season — a dedicated R&B and hip-hop night format that draws a consistent crowd every Wednesday night. Confirmed R&Bae Wednesdays dates at Hakkasan in 2026 include January 28, April 8, April 15, and continuing weekly through August. He also performs at Drai's Nightclub at The Cromwell — one of the Strip's leading hip-hop venues — and at Jewel Nightclub at ARIA Resort & Casino. Guest list registration through NoCoverVegas provides complimentary entry to DJ Franzen's R&Bae Wednesdays at Hakkasan Nightclub and his Drai's and Jewel performances throughout the 2026 season. The Experience

What to Expect at a DJ Franzen Show

DJ Franzen's sound: Hip-hop and R&B resident DJ shaped by three decades of Bay Area radio heritage — DJ Franzen's Hakkasan R&Bae Wednesdays sets draw from deep catalog knowledge spanning West Coast hip-hop, 1990s R&B, and current chart material, shaped by early career years at 106.1 KMEL and co-hosting Snoop Dogg's nationally syndicated radio show. His sets blend old school, hip-hop, R&B, and reggae with emotional range informed by Jay-Z, Tupac, Frank Sinatra, and Sade influences. At Hakkasan, the professional sound systems and production infrastructure amplify every element of their performance — from the sub-bass to the high-end clarity.

DJ Franzen typically takes the stage on Wednesdays (R&Bae at Hakkasan) + select Drai's and Jewel dates. Their sets run 60 to 90 minutes and deliver the full Vegas production experience with professional sound, lighting, and crowd energy that you cannot find anywhere else.

General admission cover charges for DJ Franzen shows are $20-40 — FREE with NoCoverVegas guest list. With NoCoverVegas, you skip the cover charge entirely and receive a free guest list entry from your hotel to the venue.

Hakkasan is where Vegas nightlife meets fine dining ambition — five floors that each feel like a different club. Start dinner downstairs at the Cantonese restaurant, move up to the Ling Ling Lounge hip-hop floor, then ascend to the thundering main room where the DJ stage rises above a sea of 3,000+ people. The production quality is closer to a stadium concert than a typical nightclub. Friday and Saturday headliners bring the biggest EDM names on the Strip. The venue's sheer scale means you can disappear for an hour on one floor and emerge somewhere completely different.

Dark, intimate underground energy with multiple rooms for different sounds — the original Drai's vibe restored. Hip-hop in one room, house in another, hookah lounge as the chill-out zone. More focused and immersive than the rooftop era, where the outdoor environment imposed a ceiling on the bass response and the show competed with the Strip skyline for attention. Underground, the sound system takes over completely and the crowd orientation shifts inward toward the DJ and the dance floor rather than outward toward a view. The multi-room format creates a constant sense of discovery — the energy in the hip-hop room at 1 AM is completely different from the electronic room at the same time, and moving between the two resets the experience without requiring a venue change. The hookah lounge functions as a decompression zone: lower volume, seated, a space to hold a conversation or plan the next move without stepping outside. The Wednesday industry night crowd knows the venue intimately — less performative than weekends, more socially fluid, and the kind of room where you are more likely to talk to strangers and less likely to be in a group that stays rigidly at one table all night.

MusicEDM, Hip Hop, Top 40, Open Format

Intimate multi-level club at ARIA spanning 24,000 sq ft — the dual-sided LED production wall and 360-degree lighting give it visual spectacle that punches well above its size. Five mezzanine VIP suites directly above the dance floor create a sense of exclusive sightlines that the mega-clubs can't match. The Tao Group residency roster (Steve Aoki, Lil Jon, Murda Beatz) means headliner nights feel like the same talent in a space that's half the size and twice as personal.
