Eric Aguirre — known professionally as DJ Vice — was born on October 13, 1978, in Los Angeles, California, in a city whose club culture, radio infrastructure, and multicultural demographics would provide the specific inputs shaping his approach to open-format DJing before he ever played a residency or festival. He acquired his first pair of turntables at age 12, around 1990, spending the early 1990s developing technique through backyard events and informal parties rather than formal DJ education — a self-taught trajectory common to the pre-internet generation of LA DJs who learned to read rooms through accumulated practice rather than curated online tutorials. His professional career began in 1992, making him one of the longer-tenured working DJs in the Las Vegas residency circuit. His early work was concentrated in the Los Angeles club infrastructure, where the city’s diverse audience demanded genre-blending open-format programming — hip-hop, R&B, Latin, pop, and electronic elements combined in a set architecture that rejected genre boundaries in favor of keeping specific rooms moving through transitions. This flexibility proved commercially valuable in the residency context, where a DJ must maintain audience engagement across demographics rather than playing to a self-selecting genre fan base. His first Las Vegas residency came at Body English at the Hard Rock Hotel in 2002 — a placement that introduced him to the international tourist audience that fills Strip venues in ways local LA crowds did not. His production and collaborative work extends well beyond DJing: he has recorded and worked in studio settings with Rihanna, Kelly Rowland, Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey, Lady Gaga, Linkin Park, Capital Cities, and Tegan and Sara.
