About Lupe Fiasco

Wasalu Muhammad Jaco — performing as Lupe Fiasco — was born February 16, 1982, on the West Side of Chicago, Illinois, into a household that shaped both his Islamic faith and his intellectual approach to hip-hop. He learned martial arts and built his early reputation through Chicago's mixtape circuit before Atlantic Records signed him in 2005. His debut album Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor (2006) arrived with four Grammy nominations including Best Rap Album — one of a handful of debut albums to earn that recognition. The title track Kick Push — a meditation on skateboard culture as social metaphor — demonstrated the literary density that separated his writing from commercial rap's prevailing style. His second album The Cool (2007) built a narrative around recurring characters, and his 2011 album Lasers debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200. He won one Grammy — Best Urban/Alternative Performance at the 50th Grammy Awards (2008) for Daydreamin' featuring Jill Scott — across eleven total career nominations. In Las Vegas, he performs select dates at Drai's Nightclub at The Vanderpump Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip. Guest list through NoCoverVegas for his Drai's appearances.
