Khalif Malik Ibn Shaman Brown — performing as Swae Lee — was born June 7, 1993 in Inglewood, California and raised in Tupelo, Mississippi and Semmes, Alabama, where he and his older brother Jermaine (Slim Jxmmi) began making music before their family could afford instruments, recording over cassette tapes found in thrift stores.
