What is Hacker Summer Camp
Three Conferences. One City. Nine Days.
Hacker Summer Camp is the informal name for the annual convergence of three major cybersecurity events in Las Vegas every August: Black Hat USA, BSides Las Vegas, and DEF CON. The events are not organized jointly — they arose independently over decades and happen to share the same city in the same window — but their schedules have long been structured to enable attendance at multiple conferences within a single Las Vegas trip.
Black Hat USA is the enterprise anchor: a paid commercial conference at Mandalay Bay Convention Center drawing 20,000+ corporate security professionals, government contractors, and vendor teams on expense accounts. The attendee profile is heavily weighted toward industry buyers and practitioners with defined job titles and organizational budgets. Trainings cost thousands of dollars per course; general briefing admission runs in the hundreds. It is where enterprise security tools get announced, sold, and evaluated.
BSides Las Vegas runs simultaneously at Tuscany Suites — a free, peer-reviewed, community-organized conference that has explicitly refused corporate sponsorship influence on content. Registration is free but capped; apply at bsideslv.org before spots fill. The BSides crowd overlaps heavily with DEF CON: independent researchers, academics, and practitioners who prefer a smaller, more conversational event before the main DEF CON floor opens.
DEF CON is the culmination: 30,000 hackers, security researchers, students, government officials, and curious minds paying cash at the door for the world's largest hacker conference. No pre-registration, no name badge scanning, no corporate sponsor agenda. Villages, CTF competition, badge puzzles, the Wall of Sheep, and the accumulated energy of a community that runs on curiosity and adversarial thinking. DEF CON 34 moves to the Las Vegas Convention Center West Hall — more floor space than any previous venue in the conference's history.
From a Las Vegas nightlife perspective, Hacker Summer Camp is nine consecutive days of elevated demand across every venue in the Strip corridor. The south Strip (Mandalay Bay, MGM Grand, Park MGM) absorbs the Black Hat crowd during training and briefings week. The north Strip (LVCC, Resorts World, Venetian, Wynn) absorbs the DEF CON crowd from Thursday August 6 onward. On August 6 itself, both crowds are simultaneously present at opposite ends of the city and converge in the center Strip for the highest-demand nightlife night of the entire summer.

The Overlap Day — Black Hat Ends, DEF CON Begins
August 6, 2026 is the most significant single day of Hacker Summer Camp. Black Hat USA Briefings conclude Thursday at Mandalay Bay Convention Center — 20,000 enterprise professionals are celebrating the end of their conference. At the same time, DEF CON 34 badge pickup opens at 8 AM at the Las Vegas Convention Center — 30,000 hackers arrive from all over the world, descending on the north Strip with cash in hand.
The result is a Las Vegas where 50,000+ cybersecurity professionals are simultaneously present and simultaneously looking for a Thursday night out. Center-Strip venues — OMNIA at Caesars, TAO at Venetian, Marquee at Cosmopolitan, Drai's at Cromwell — sit geographically between the two conference venues and absorb both crowds simultaneously. Zouk Nightclub at Resorts World is 0.8 miles from the LVCC badge window, making it the first nightclub DEF CON badge holders can reach on foot after leaving the convention center.
Thursday August 6 is the single highest-demand nightlife night of the nine-day window. Submit guest list for Thursday venues by Tuesday August 4 at the latest. Venues that see relatively easy guest list access on standard August Thursdays will have limited capacity by Thursday afternoon of Hacker Summer Camp week.

Sullivan King at EBC at Night — metalcore-influenced dubstep and bass music — is the most sonically distinct Sunday booking and aligns with the DEF CON crowd. Drai’s After Hours (1 AM–6 AM) is the last-night safety valve for anyone who wants to extend past 4 AM.
Phase 1 · Aug 1–5
Black Hat Week — South Strip Base, Corporate Crowd
Black Hat training runs August 1–4 at Mandalay Bay Convention Center on the south Strip. The audience during training week is technical practitioners — application security engineers, penetration testers, malware analysts, and cloud security architects attending hands-on eight and sixteen-hour courses. Evening energy is moderate: the training schedule starts 9 AM daily, which limits how late the crowd runs Monday through Thursday. Hakkasan Nightclub at MGM Grand (0.5 miles north, walkable in 10 minutes) is the training-week nightclub of choice for its proximity.
Briefings begin Wednesday August 5 and the character of the crowd shifts significantly. The full conference population is present. The Business Hall opens, bringing vendor teams and corporate buyers into the mix. Wednesday evening is the peak Black Hat networking night — vendor parties launch from Business Hall booths, and the professional conference culture of dinner-then-drinks runs later than the training-week schedule permits. The Skyfall Lounge at Delano (connected directly to Mandalay Bay) is one of the best-positioned venue options for after-Briefings drinks, with panoramic Strip views and a premium bar environment.
The dress code reality for Black Hat is favorable: business-casual conference attire meets or exceeds Las Vegas nightclub dress standards without modification. CISOs, security consultants, and vendor sales teams dress for the Business Hall in collared shirts, dress slacks, and leather shoes — exactly what nightclub doors require.

Phase 2 · Aug 6–9
DEF CON Week — North Strip Base, Hacker Crowd
DEF CON 34 opens Thursday August 6 at the Las Vegas Convention Center West Hall — directly adjacent to Resorts World Las Vegas on the north end of the Strip. The geographic shift from Mandalay Bay to LVCC moves the center of gravity for nightlife decision-making from the south Strip to the north. Zouk Nightclub at Resorts World, TAO at The Venetian, and the Wynn campus (Encore Beach Club) are the three nearest major nightclub options for LVCC-based attendees.
The DEF CON dress code reality requires explicit preparation that Black Hat's attendee profile does not. Standard DEF CON attire — jeans, a hacker-themed t-shirt, comfortable walking shoes — will be rejected at OMNIA, EBC at Night, Hakkasan, and every other major Las Vegas nightclub. If you plan to hit the Strip clubs during DEF CON week, pack at minimum one collared shirt or button-down and a pair of non-athletic shoes. Zouk at Resorts World has a reputation for being the most convention-week pragmatic on dress code among the major venues.
Beyond the formal Strip nightclub circuit, DEF CON runs its own parallel nightlife ecosystem. The official DEF CON party (Saturday evening, badge included) is the largest single gathering of the conference. Unofficial hacker parties — some invite-only, some word-of-mouth only — provide a counter-cultural alternative to the Strip nightclub circuit that better fits the DEF CON ethos for a significant subset of attendees.

Where to Stay
Best Hotels for Hacker Summer Camp 2026
The two conference venues sit at opposite ends of the Strip: Mandalay Bay (south) and the LVCC (north). Hotel choice involves a real tradeoff between Black Hat proximity, DEF CON proximity, and nightlife access.

Black Hat-only attendees
Conference hotel with direct convention center access. Mandalay Bay Beach on-property. Hakkasan 0.5 mi north. Zero commute to briefings.
The Cosmopolitan
Full-week attendees (both events)
Best central-Strip balance: 15 min rideshare to Mandalay Bay (BH) and LVCC (DC). Marquee Nightclub and Dayclub on-property. Most restaurants per square foot on the Strip.
Caesars Palace
Nightlife-focused attendees
OMNIA Nightclub and OMNIA Dayclub via skybridge. 12 min to both conference venues. Gordon Ramsay, Nobu for client dinners.
The Venetian Resort
Black Hat + nightlife
TAO Nightclub and TAO Beach on-property. Walking distance from LVCC (north Strip). 15 min south to Mandalay Bay. Grand Canal Shoppes for client entertaining.
Resorts World Las Vegas
DEF CON-only attendees

Wynn & Encore Las Vegas
Premium nightlife priority
Encore Beach Club (EBC at Night) on-property — home of Kaskade and Gryffin during DEF CON week. Central Strip balance. Note: XS Nightclub closed Aug–Oct 2026.

Crowd Guide
Venues by Crowd Type — Black Hat vs. DEF CON
Black Hat Professional
Corporate card, dress code compliant, client entertainment mode
Top Nightclubs:
- · Hakkasan Nightclub (MGM Grand)
- · OMNIA Nightclub (Caesars Palace)
- · TAO Nightclub (Venetian)
Top Pool Parties:
- · Palm Tree Beach Club (MGM Grand)
- · Encore Beach Club (Wynn)
- · OMNIA Dayclub (Caesars)
Black Hat’s enterprise demographic — business-casual attire by default, corporate entertainment budgets, client relationship-building context — maps perfectly to Las Vegas upscale nightclub culture. The professional crowd typically books bottles, runs later on briefings nights (Wednesday–Thursday), and has the lowest dress code friction of any Las Vegas convention demographic.
DEF CON Hacker
Casual, counter-cultural, cash-only ethos, pack at least one going-out outfit
Top Nightclubs:
- · Zouk Nightclub (Resorts World — walkable)
- · Marquee Nightclub (Cosmopolitan)
- · Drai’s After Hours (Cromwell — 1 AM)
Top Pool Parties:
- · AYU Dayclub (Resorts World — walkable)
- · Marquee Dayclub (Cosmopolitan)
- · Encore Beach Club (Wynn — Gryffin/Sullivan King)
DEF CON’s dress code reality: standard hacker conference attire (jeans, black t-shirt) will be rejected at major nightclubs. Pack one collared shirt or button-down if you plan to hit the Strip clubs. Zouk at Resorts World is the most accessible option — 0.8 miles on foot. Drai’s After Hours runs 1–6 AM and has the most permissive door of any premium venue in the corridor.
Guest List Strategy
How to Secure Free Club Entry for the Full 9-Day Window
Submit Early for Peak Nights
Thursday August 6 (overlap day), Friday August 7, and Saturday August 8 are the three highest-demand nights of the full nine days. Guest list capacity for these nights fills significantly faster than standard August convention weekends. For Thursday August 6, submit by Tuesday August 4. For Friday and Saturday, submit by Monday August 3. Standard convention-week nights (Monday through Wednesday) allow 24–48 hour submissions with high confirmation rates.
Dress Code — Prepare Before You Arrive
Guest list confirmation means nothing at the door if you fail the dress check. Black Hat attendees typically have no dress code problem — conference attire is nightclub-appropriate by default. DEF CON attendees must pack a separate going-out outfit. Minimum requirement for men: collared shirt, closed-toe non-athletic shoes, no cargo shorts or hoodies. Prepare this before you leave home — the Vegas Strip does not have an affordable last-minute option at 10 PM.
The North Strip vs. South Strip Split
Black Hat week (Aug 1–5) — submit guest list for south Strip venues: Hakkasan (MGM Grand), OMNIA/Caesars, Marquee/Cosmopolitan. DEF CON week (Aug 6–9) — submit for north Strip venues: Zouk (Resorts World), EBC at Night (Wynn), OMNIA (Caesars). August 6 requires both crowds to navigate across the Strip simultaneously — center Strip venues (OMNIA, Marquee, TAO) are the equilibrium point.
XS Nightclub — Closed Aug–Oct 2026
XS Nightclub at Wynn Las Vegas is closed for renovation from August through October 2026, with a scheduled reopening on New Year's Eve December 31. During Hacker Summer Camp, the Wynn campus nightlife option is Encore Beach Club at Night (EBC at Night) — the outdoor venue that has hosted Gryffin, Kaskade, and Sullivan King during the DEF CON week calendar. Adjust all plans for EBC at Night rather than XS during this period.

FAQ
Hacker Summer Camp Las Vegas 2026 — Frequently Asked Questions
What is Hacker Summer Camp Las Vegas 2026?
Hacker Summer Camp is the informal name for the annual convergence of Black Hat USA, BSides Las Vegas, and DEF CON during the first and second weeks of August in Las Vegas. In 2026: Black Hat USA runs August 1–6 at Mandalay Bay Convention Center (20,000+ enterprise security professionals); BSides Las Vegas runs August 3–5 at Tuscany Suites (free, community-run, ~3,000 attendees); DEF CON 34 runs August 6–9 at the Las Vegas Convention Center West Hall (30,000+ hackers). Combined attendance exceeds 50,000 cybersecurity professionals in Las Vegas for a nine-day window — the largest annual gathering of the global security community.
What are the exact dates for Hacker Summer Camp 2026?
Black Hat USA 2026: August 1–6 at Mandalay Bay Convention Center. Black Hat Trainings run Saturday August 1 through Tuesday August 4. Summit Day is Tuesday August 4. Black Hat Briefings and Business Hall run Wednesday August 5 and Thursday August 6. BSides Las Vegas 2026: August 3–5 at Tuscany Suites (free registration at bsideslv.org — capped, apply early). DEF CON 34: August 6–9 at Las Vegas Convention Center West Hall. Badge pickup opens Thursday August 6. Show hours: Thursday–Saturday 8 AM–8 PM; Sunday 10 AM–4 PM. August 6 is the overlap day when both Black Hat Briefings and DEF CON badge pickup run simultaneously.
What happens on August 6 — is it Black Hat or DEF CON?
Both. August 6, 2026 is the most significant day of Hacker Summer Camp. Black Hat USA Briefings run their final day at Mandalay Bay Convention Center on the south Strip. DEF CON 34 badge pickup opens at 8 AM at the Las Vegas Convention Center on the north Strip — 30,000 hackers arrive in Las Vegas on Thursday. The combined security convention crowd reaches maximum density: 50,000+ professionals simultaneously in Las Vegas. This makes Thursday August 6 the single busiest nightlife night of the entire nine-day window. Submit guest list for Thursday clubs by Tuesday August 4 at the latest.
What is the best nightclub on the overlap night (August 6)?
For the DEF CON-arriving crowd: Zouk Nightclub at Resorts World Las Vegas is the top choice — 0.8 miles from the LVCC West Hall badge window, walkable in 15 minutes. For the Black Hat-departing crowd: TAO Nightclub at The Venetian runs Worship Thursdays and sits between Mandalay Bay (south) and the LVCC (north), making it the natural crossover venue. OMNIA Nightclub at Caesars Palace runs Thursday programming with lower headliner pricing than its weekend bookings. Drai’s After Hours at Cromwell opens at 1 AM and runs until sunrise for anyone who wants to keep going past 4 AM on the biggest night of the week.
How is the nightlife crowd different between Black Hat week and DEF CON week?
Black Hat (Aug 1–6) brings enterprise security professionals — CISOs, security consultants, vendor sales teams, and government contractors on corporate expense accounts. This crowd dresses well by default (business casual to business formal), books bottle service for client entertainment, and gravitates toward upscale venues: Hakkasan at MGM Grand, OMNIA at Caesars, TAO at The Venetian. DEF CON (Aug 6–9) brings a more counter-cultural community — independent researchers, students, government officials, and hackers of every background paying cash at the door. This crowd has higher dress code friction at upscale clubs (standard hacker attire of jeans and t-shirts will be rejected) and tends to split between Strip clubs and unofficial hacker parties. Both crowds converge on Thursday August 6 and the energy is the highest of any convention week in Las Vegas.
What should I wear to Las Vegas nightclubs during Hacker Summer Camp week?
Las Vegas nightclub dress code applies regardless of which conference you are attending. For men: dress shoes or clean leather sneakers, fitted trousers or dark denim, collared shirt or button-down — NO athletic wear, cargo shorts, sandals, sports jerseys, hoodies, or ball caps. For women: heels, dresses, or elevated separates — the dress code is less restrictive for women in practice. Black Hat USA attendees typically arrive in conference attire that meets or exceeds dress code standards by default. DEF CON attendees in standard hacker conference gear (jeans, black t-shirt) will be turned away at major venues. Pack at minimum one collared shirt or button-down if you plan to go to nightclubs during DEF CON week.
Are there official parties during Hacker Summer Camp week?
Yes, from both the official conference side and vendor-sponsored side. The DEF CON official party is held Saturday evening (August 8 for DEF CON 34) and is included with your general admission badge — no separate ticket or RSVP required. Black Hat has vendor-sponsored parties throughout the Briefings days (August 5–6) — visit vendor booths in the Business Hall on Wednesday for invite QR codes. Follow @BlackHatEvents and major security vendor accounts for real-time announcements. The community-maintained list at conferenceparties.com/hsc2026/ is updated continuously with unofficial parties across all three conferences.
What is the best hotel for attending the full Hacker Summer Camp week?
The Cosmopolitan at center Strip is the most practical single hotel for attending both Black Hat (south Strip at Mandalay Bay) and DEF CON (north Strip at LVCC) in the same week. It is approximately 15 minutes by rideshare to both venues, with Marquee Nightclub and Marquee Dayclub on-property. For Black Hat-only attendees, Mandalay Bay itself or MGM Grand (0.5 miles north, Hakkasan on-property) provides the best convention proximity. For DEF CON-only attendees, Resorts World Las Vegas is directly adjacent to the LVCC West Hall — walkable in 5 minutes — with Zouk Nightclub and AYU Dayclub on-property.
Can I go to pool parties during Black Hat and DEF CON week?
Yes. August is Las Vegas’s peak pool party season — all major dayclubs run full programming every day of the week. For Black Hat attendees near Mandalay Bay: Palm Tree Beach Club at MGM Grand (0.5 miles north, walkable) runs Wednesday through Sunday. Encore Beach Club at Wynn (2 miles north) is the premium option. For DEF CON attendees at the LVCC: AYU Dayclub at Resorts World is directly adjacent — walkable in 15 minutes. Encore Beach Club runs Friday through Sunday with the highest-caliber headliner bookings of DEF CON week: It’s Murph (Friday August 7) and Hugel (Saturday August 8). OMNIA Dayclub at Caesars Palace features Tiestö, Fisher, and Martin Garrix through August.
What is the DEF CON 34 official party and is it at a nightclub?
The DEF CON official party is held Saturday evening (August 8, 2026 for DEF CON 34) at a venue announced closer to the event on defcon.org and the DEF CON app. It is typically a large conference-hosted gathering — not a traditional nightclub, but a dedicated party space with music, bars, and the accumulated energy of 30,000 attendees. The party is included with your general admission badge purchase and does not require a separate ticket. Vendor-sponsored events and unofficial gatherings run in parallel throughout the DEF CON weekend — these circulate through the DEF CON Discord and conferenceparties.com/hsc2026/.
What strip clubs are available during Hacker Summer Camp week?
Convention weeks are peak nights at Las Vegas strip clubs. All major venues run at full capacity Monday through Sunday during Hacker Summer Camp week. Sapphire Las Vegas (70,000 sq ft, world’s largest) offers free limo pickup from both Mandalay Bay-area and LVCC-area hotels. Crazy Horse 3, Spearmint Rhino, Peppermint Hippo, and Hustler Club are within the Strip corridor and accessible by rideshare in under 15 minutes. NoCoverVegas provides free entry and free limo service from convention-area hotels for qualifying groups during the full Hacker Summer Camp window.
How do I get on the free guest list for Las Vegas clubs during Hacker Summer Camp?
Submit the guest list form on this page before your target night. For standard convention-week nights (Monday through Wednesday), submit at least 48 hours in advance. For the high-demand nights — Thursday August 6 (overlap day), Friday August 7, Saturday August 8 — submit by Tuesday August 4 at the latest. Saturday August 8 (Kaskade at EBC at Night + Chris Lake at OMNIA) is the single highest-demand night of the full nine days and should be submitted by Tuesday evening. Note: XS Nightclub at Wynn Las Vegas is closed for renovation August through October 2026 — the Wynn campus nightlife option is Encore Beach Club at Night (EBC at Night) during this period.
