About Excision

Jeffrey Travis Abel — born 29 April 1986 in Kelowna, British Columbia — has operated under the Excision name for nearly two decades, building one of bass music's most devoted communities through a combination of heavy production craft, consistent touring, and a sustained commitment to elevating the live experience of dubstep into something that rivals arena-scale spectacle. His first release, Warning, arrived in 2007, establishing a sonic framework — engineered sub-bass, aggressive waveform design, and rhythmic intensity — that would define his catalog's aesthetic across every subsequent project. His 2011 debut studio album X Rated gained wide recognition in the EDM community, setting the commercial and critical standard for North American dubstep production at the time of its release, a position reinforced by the albums Codename X, Virus, Apex, and Onyx that followed over subsequent years. Abel founded two record labels — Rottun Recordings and Subsidia Records — giving him independent curatorial control over the heavy electronic music ecosystem he helped build, while also creating infrastructure for emerging artists in the bass music space to release work under imprints with genuine underground credibility. His Destroid project — a dubstep supergroup assembled with Downlink and KJ Sawka — combined DJ performance with live instrumentation in an Ableton Live band format, expanding the definition of what a bass music performance could look like on stage. The Paradox stage production is Excision's signature live element: a massive custom LED and laser apparatus that surrounds the audience in synchronized visual and sonic stimulation calibrated to his DJ sets. The same instinct toward scale translated into festival creation: Lost Lands, his annual heavy music festival held at Legend Valley in Thornville, Ohio, draws tens of thousands of fans to a camping event that functions as both a commercial success and a curatorial statement about where bass music's best production sits. Bass Canyon, his west coast counterpart at The Gorge Amphitheatre in George, Washington, extends the same model to one of North America's most celebrated outdoor amphitheater settings. His Las Vegas residency at XS Nightclub and Encore Beach Club at Wynn Las Vegas brings the Excision experience to two of the Strip's most technically capable venues — indoor and outdoor formats that can handle the sub-bass frequencies his productions require.
