The Prodigy are a British electronic group formed in the early 1990s by Liam Howlett, who returned to his hometown of Braintree, Essex after leaving hip-hop group Cut 2 Kill and began building tracks on a Commodore Amiga before graduating to more sophisticated production hardware. The group — which at its commercial peak featured Howlett alongside performer Keith Flint and MC Maxim — built their reputation through UK rave culture before crossing over to mainstream success with an uncompromising sound that combined industrial intensity, breakbeat percussion, and aggressive vocal performances that made electronic music visceral and confrontational in a way no act before them had achieved at mainstream scale.
